  • 'Cousin's allotment salad'

    For a very short time only, we will be serving 'Cousin's salad', fresh from cousin Luke's allotment in West Sussex!

    Freshly picked purple and yellow beans with borlotti and celery, tossed in a light red onion vinaigrette, with either seeds and nuts (vegan) or glazed goats cheese (vegetarian).

    At £7.95, it's perfect for lunch, but do be quick.  We will only be able to serve this for a limited period!

    Thank you cousin Luke - not only do these taste delicious, but they look stunning too!

  • Goats Cheese Wellington - now on the menu at Green's

    Once again, we will be open this evening from 6pm, for dinner at Green's!

    Fresh on the menu is our delicious goats cheese wellington, comprising goats cheese and mediterranean vegetables.

    Cased in golden puff pastry and served with crushed potatoes and a sun blush tomato and olive salad, we think this dish is a winner!

    Perfect with a glass of chilled white wine.

  • Green's Mediterranean Salad now on the menu

    We don't wish to speak too soon, but summer might just be gracing us with its presence.  And, in celebration, we have created a very special and delicious dish to accompany the balmy weather.

    Our Mediterranean salad comprises dressed mesculum salad leaves topped with crunchy vegetables, marinated in kalamata olives, sunblush tomatoes and served with a choice of warm glazed goats cheese, grilled chicken or our very own homemade garlicky hummus!

    With a crunchy multi grain roll on the side, we think we've got a winner!

    Do pop in, sit on the sunny terrace and join us for lunch.  We'll see you there!

  • 'Tasters Required'! It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!

    It's all go in the Green's 'test kitchen' and we now have on the menu, gluten-free, vegan carrot cake.

    So, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all of our gluten free and vegan customers who volunteered in perfecting this!  Thanks to your tastebuds, we now have a flawless specimen!

  • 'Meat Free Monday's' at Green's!

    We are delighted to announce our 'Meat Free Monday' initiative, starting today!

    Meat Free Monday is all about helping people exprience one 'meat free' day per week, whereby they can experiment with a meat free alternative dish.

    Not only is eating more vegetables good for you, but it's also good for the planet, so everyone's a winner!

    In celebration of 'Meat Free Monday', we will be offering some very special vegetarian dishes every Monday this year.  But, if you fancy some meat on a Monday, don't panic!  We will still be offering all of our usual meat dishes too.

    We hope you pop in soon and try one of our healthy, meat-free treats.

  • Make Mum's Day at Green's!

    In celebration of Mum's everywhere, we are making our own small contribution at Green's!

    Bring your Mother in on 10th March for lunch and we'll serve her with special handmade chocolates, created and made here on the premises in the Green's kitchen!

    Of course, it's not just the chocolate that's special.  We'll be serving a full range of our delicious home cooked dishes, and don't forget we cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian diets, so nobody will be forgotten.

  • Open all week of October Half Term!

    The October Half Term is almost upon us and we're chomping at the bit at Greens to accommodate your every culinary whim!

    So, in order to keep up with demand, we have decided to open for the entire week from Saturday 27th October right through to Monday 5th November.

    As  ever, we will be serving all your foodie favourites and spicing things up with some extra yummy and delicious winter warmers.

    So, bring your family, friends, kids and dogs!  We look forward to making your half term break extra special!

  • The 'Top Ten Fills to Hit the Hills' - our Food for Fuel Campaign

    We are delighted to launch our new 'Food for Fuel' Campaign - The 'Top Ten Fills to Hit the Hills'!

    Our top ten high-energy dishes are aimed at providing the best possible nutritional values for those seeking a healthy and active lifestyle.  The campaign focuses primarily on walkers visiting the local area and gives a guide on food to eat prior to walking, such as Yoghurt Parfait with Homemade Granola; food to eat whilst on the move, such as Very Veggie Wrap with Homemade Hummus, Shredded Vegetables, Homemade Chutney, Seeds and Dried Fruits; and food for recovery, such as Three Bean Chilli.

    Karen and Rob have developed Greens into one of Grasmere’s most popular establishments and as we all know, already specialise in providing for those with very specific dietary requirements.

    “We are delighted to be launching this new ‘food for fuel’ campaign and hope it will prove to be a helpful guide for those planning an active day out in the Lake District.” says Karen.  “We already specialise in healthy, seasonal comfort food, and are a very popular choice for those who come to the Lakes to walk and climb.  We are frequently asked which particular foods will benefit a day on the fells, so providing a concise list of nutritious high energy food seemed a logical step.  Although aimed primarily at walkers, we believe that everyone, including young people, can learn about the benefits of good nutrition and how food can impact the body’s performance.”

  • Quinoa - Unique and Healthy at Greens

    We couldn't be accused of being 'ordinary' at Greens and our latest dish is certainly testament to that!  Currently on our menu, our 'Warm Roasted Vegetable and Quinoa Salad' is both unique and healthy.

    Comprising quinoa, roasted vegetables, cranberries, apricots, toasted nuts and seeds with a tahini and yoghurt dressing, this unusual recipe is seriously tasty and super-healthy too!

    For those not in the know, quinoa is usually considered to be a wholegrain, but is actually a seed, although it can be prepared like rice or barley.  A staple food in South America for thousands of years, quinoa has the highest protein content of all wholegrains, so it's perfect for vegetarians and vegans.  It also provides all 9 essential amino acids and is both gluten-free and cholesterol-free.

    So, there you are.  Everything we know about quinoa.  Just don't ask us to pronounce it!
