Make a difference in 'Meat Free Week - 23-29 March'
'Meat Free Week' in the UK takes place from 23rd - 29th March. What's it all about and what are the benefits of going 'meat free'?
The average Briton consumes more than 80kg of meat each year - that's double the world average. Food for thought?
Apart from the obvious health benefits, partaking in 'Meat Free Week' gives you the opportunity to support 3 charities: Beating Bowel Cancer; Compassion in World Farming and World Land Trust.
You can visit https://uk.meatfreeweek.org/home to find out more and get inspiring recipes.
And of course, we will also be supporting 'Meat Free Week' at Green's by dishing up a series of vegetarian and vegan treats!

Summer Salads are hot at Green's
We're coming over all summery at Green's this month and with the weather as it is, it's hardly surprising.
So, we've been flexing our gardener's muscles and getting all herby!
Tomato and mozzarella with fresh basil is one of life's simplest and yet, greatest pleasures and we're serving it up at Green's.
With the basil created by our very own hands, it couldn't be more organic. And, we don't think this dish will be hanging around for too long!

Last year, our 'sharing platters' were such a hit that we have decided to resurrect them!
Our tasting plates - vegetarian or vegan - are perfect for one, or to share and we've included all of our personal favourites.
Spiced hummus with ginger and lime, hummus with basil, garlic and herbs, quinoa salad, stuffed peppers, marinated olives, sunblushed tomatoes and crudités - all for £9.95.
Healthy and delicious, they are a firm fixture on Greens' summer menu. Enjoy!

Grasmere's children hold 'come dine with me' event at Green's!
The children from years 5 & 6 at Grasmere School held a 'Come Dine with me' event at the café yesterday to demonstrate their culinary and preparation skills. A number of sessions at the café culminated in a special lunch for parents and community members, at which the children prepared, cooked and served.
On the menu was vegetable soup, herdwick lamb shepherds pie (vegetarian available) served with vegetables, and apple pie served with ice cream. In addition to laying the place settings, folding napkins, writing menu's, cooking and serving, the children also provided 'entertainment' for their guests prior to the dessert course!
"This is one of the best things we have ever done." says Grasmere School's Headmistress, Jo Goode. "The children have learnt a range of different skills such as the scientific and nutritional element of food groups, maths and social skills. We invited a number of people who help us out at the school in different ways and wanted to say thank-you to them. We also owe a big thank-you to Karen and Rob at Green's who have given up their time for this wonderful initiative."

Apple Cobbler anyone?
The lovely Mary Harkness dropped off some apples to us today from her orchard in the Lyth Valley.
We are rustling up a delicious apple cobbler for this evening's dinner and will be serving it with cinnamon, brown sugar and custard.
There's nothing more perfect than comfort food when the weather kicks in!
Looking forward to seeing you!
