Grasmere's children hold 'come dine with me' event at Green's!
The children from years 5 & 6 at Grasmere School held a 'Come Dine with me' event at the café yesterday to demonstrate their culinary and preparation skills. A number of sessions at the café culminated in a special lunch for parents and community members, at which the children prepared, cooked and served.
On the menu was vegetable soup, herdwick lamb shepherds pie (vegetarian available) served with vegetables, and apple pie served with ice cream. In addition to laying the place settings, folding napkins, writing menu's, cooking and serving, the children also provided 'entertainment' for their guests prior to the dessert course!
"This is one of the best things we have ever done." says Grasmere School's Headmistress, Jo Goode. "The children have learnt a range of different skills such as the scientific and nutritional element of food groups, maths and social skills. We invited a number of people who help us out at the school in different ways and wanted to say thank-you to them. We also owe a big thank-you to Karen and Rob at Green's who have given up their time for this wonderful initiative."

If Her Majesty were to visit Grasmere this weekend, we're pretty sure she'd be popping into Greens for our special 'Jubilee Picnic Platter'.
Celebrating all that is great about being British, the Jubilee picnic platter comprises all of our favourite foods - coronation chicken and cucumber sandwiches, sausage roll, scone with strawberries and cream and celebration cupcake, all washed down with delicious pimms, tea, coffee or a soft drink.
Available to eat in or take away, the Jubliee Picnic Platter costs from £7.95 and can also be pre-ordered.
Throughout the Jubilee weekend, we will also be serving meringues with summer fruits and good old fashioned jelly and ice cream! Now, that's definitely all worthy of celebration!
