Today, it officially, the 'saddest' day of the year, when we feel depressed and not quite ourselves.
A combination of cold, nasty weather and the post-Christmas hangover are contributory factors.
Luckily, Green's is on hand to provide comfort and cheer!
Warm your bodies and hearts with our delicious sweet potato and cauliflower curry, easy to make and certain to lift the spirits!
Happy Munching...
Greens' Sweet Potato and Cauliflower Curry (GF, DF):
1 x cauliflower, cut into florets
1 x large or 2 x small sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 2cm chunks
2 x red onions, diced
3 x cloves of garlic, finely diced
1 x chilli de-seeded and finely sliced (leave seeds in for more heat)
1 x 3cm square piece of ginger
1 x can of chopped Italian tomatoes
1 x can of drained chickpeas
1 x teaspoon of dried cumin and coriander
1 x pint of gluten-free vegetable stock
1 x tablespoon of vegetable oil
Fresh coriander, chopped and extra for plating up
Method:
Sautee the onions, garlic and fresh chillies in the vegetable oil
Grate in the ginger

The 'Top Ten Fills to Hit the Hills' - our Food for Fuel Campaign

We are delighted to launch our new 'Food for Fuel' Campaign - The 'Top Ten Fills to Hit the Hills'!
Our top ten high-energy dishes are aimed at providing the best possible nutritional values for those seeking a healthy and active lifestyle. The campaign focuses primarily on walkers visiting the local area and gives a guide on food to eat prior to walking, such as Yoghurt Parfait with Homemade Granola; food to eat whilst on the move, such as Very Veggie Wrap with Homemade Hummus, Shredded Vegetables, Homemade Chutney, Seeds and Dried Fruits; and food for recovery, such as Three Bean Chilli.
Karen and Rob have developed Greens into one of Grasmere’s most popular establishments and as we all know, already specialise in providing for those with very specific dietary requirements.
“We are delighted to be launching this new ‘food for fuel’ campaign and hope it will prove to be a helpful guide for those planning an active day out in the Lake District.” says Karen. “We already specialise in healthy, seasonal comfort food, and are a very popular choice for those who come to the Lakes to walk and climb. We are frequently asked which particular foods will benefit a day on the fells, so providing a concise list of nutritious high energy food seemed a logical step. Although aimed primarily at walkers, we believe that everyone, including young people, can learn about the benefits of good nutrition and how food can impact the body’s performance.”
So, Greens' 'Top Ten Fills to Hit the Hills' are:
Before Your Ascent:
1. Porridge with Brown Sugar and Cinnamon
2. Yoghurt Parfait with Homemade Granola
3. Cumbrian Breakfast (Vegetarian Available)
On the Move:
4. Homemade Fruity Flapjack with Apricots and Raisins
5. Wholemeal Sandwich with Hummus and Olives
6. Very Vegetarian Wrap with Seeds and Dried Fruits
The Big Recovery:
7. Three Bean Chilli
8. Vegetarian, Vegan or Meat Shepherds Pie with Fresh Vegetables
9. Sticky Toffee Pudding (Gluten-Free Available)
10. Chocolate Brownie (Vegetarian/Gluten-Free Available) with Soya Ice Cream

Quinoa - Unique and Healthy at Greens

We couldn't be accused of being 'ordinary' at Greens and our latest dish is certainly testament to that! Currently on our menu, our 'Warm Roasted Vegetable and Quinoa Salad' is both unique and healthy.
Comprising quinoa, roasted vegetables, cranberries, apricots, toasted nuts and seeds with a tahini and yoghurt dressing, this unusual recipe is seriously tasty and super-healthy too!
For those not in the know, quinoa is usually considered to be a wholegrain, but is actually a seed, although it can be prepared like rice or barley. A staple food in South America for thousands of years, quinoa has the highest protein content of all wholegrains, so it's perfect for vegetarians and vegans. It also provides all 9 essential amino acids and is both gluten-free and cholesterol-free.
So, there you are. Everything we know about quinoa. Just don't ask us to pronounce it!

Our sweet tooth has gotten the better of us today and we have been working our magic in the kitchen to create some very special treats for those joining us for dinner this weekend!
Handmade chocolates featuring on this evening's menu are chocolate and raspberry, chocolate and toasted almond clusters and chilli and lime chocolates. Why not enjoy these with coffee?
And to round off supper, why not try our apple and blackberry warm almond sponge (g/f; d/f) with a blackberry compote, served with either Greek yoghurt or soya ice cream?
We did take a photo of this to show you, but as you can see..........sorry about that.
